Support us to cater for special needs children, Foundation beckons Bayelsa government, others

Pastor Kemi Ogiemudia of Larger than I Developmental Foundation has called on Nigerians to be more involved in efforts to carter for children with special needs in the society.

She made the call during the inauguration of foundation’s new site.

Ogiemudia, a pastor at Shepherds Vine Christian center said there are areas that needs more focus in other to bring out the very best in the children.

Ogiemudia further encouraged government and public spirited individuals to come to the aid of the foundation.

According to her, there were still so much to be done concerning the special needs children, especially in terms of their education.

“Government should train teachers with the knowledge and experience with the children with special needs,” she said.

Maintaining that that taking care of special needs children is capital intensive, the Foundation’s founder however thanked some spirited individuals who have supported in one way or the other.

The centre was inaugurated in 2014 and since then, the foundation has been taking care of down syndrome kids.

“There is so much to do. Special needs is a very expensive project so we need a health centre for the children.

“We have been sending proposals to the state government. We are actually waiting for response because they know us already. We have visited different offices for support. And I know that one day, we will get that response.

“But for now, we don’t have any such support. Ministry of women affairs is very much aware of us and we believe that one day we will get something good from them.

“We have gotten some of the things they had for special children. They have given us someone or two bags of rice but for any tangible support, we are waiting. We believe that it will come because they know we are here. They are actually part of us in the sense that some government children are in our school,” She said.
