Supreme Court okays Agbu Kefas as Taraba PDP gov candidate

The Supreme Court has dismissed the appeal by Prof. Jerome Nyameh challenging the nomination of Agbu Kefas as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Taraba state.

The PDP announced Kefas as the winner of the primary held on May 25, 2022, a decision Nyameh challenged.

Ruling on Friday, a five-member panel of the Supreme Court held that the appeal was without merit and proceeded to dismiss it.

In the lead judgement, Justice Emmanuel Agim held that the appellant failed to first explore the party’s internal dispute resolution mechanism before rushing to court to sue.

Justice Agim further held that the appellant also failed to join other aspirants that participated in the primary election as defendants as required by law.

He added that the law was clear on conditions precedent to be complied with before any aggrieved governorship aspirant could approach the court.

Relief as Nasarawa hunters rescue 4 remaining abducted pupils (4th)

The Nasarawa state Police Command has confirmed that the remaining four abducted primary pupils abducted on January 20 have been rescued.

Nasarawa Police spokesman DSP Ramhan Nansel in a statement in Lafia said the pupils were rescued by hunters in Doka village, Doma local government area of the state.

The statement read in part, “In continuation of the search to rescue the remaining four pupils that were earlier abducted on 20/1/2023 at LEA Primary school, Alwaza; on 3/2/2023 at about 0700hrs, detachment of joint security operatives in collaboration with Hunters rescued the four pupils at Doka village, Doma LGA.

“The victims, Awazi Emmanuel, Success Ogah, Dominion Alhaji and Success Emmanuel have been taken to the hospital for medical examination and shall be reunited with their parents.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Maiyaki Muhammad Baba, thanked members of the public for their support thus far and urged them to assist the police with relevant information that will assist in arresting the perpetrators of the dastardly act.”
