Surety in court for failing to produce in-law

A 42-year-old man, Boniface Nwokone, has been dragged before an Ogudu magistrate’s court in Lagos for allegedly failing to produce a suspect he stood surety for in an assault case.
Nwokone, of Olatunji Street, Ojota, in Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of obstruction and perverting the course of justice for not producing one Linus Ejike, who was described as his in-law.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Lucky Ihiehie, told the court that the offence was committed on October 7, 2017 at the Family Support Unit, Ketu police station, Lagos.
He pleaded not guilty to the offences.
The prosecution alleged that Nwokone undertook to produce the suspect at the Ketu police station on October 9, 2017, pending the determination of the case against him, or forfeit the sum of N100, 000.
He added that Nwokene, rather than produce Ejike, obstructed the course of justice by aiding his escape.
The magistrate, Mrs. O. Sule-Amzat, granted him bail in the sum of N 100,000, with two sureties whose addresses she said must be verified by the court.
She adjourned the case until January 30, 2017.
