Suspect herders attack Benue community, kill one


Suspected herdsmen, Monday attacked and killed one person in his farm at Mbagwa community in Mbawa council ward of Guma local government area of Benue state.

The Monday attack is coming barely three days after the zonal coordinator of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association (MACBAN), Danladi Ciroma, pledged to cooperate with the Benue state government and security agencies to fight against criminals amongst herdsmen.

The MACBAN zonal coordinator had also while receiving rustled cows released to him by the Benue state government also promised to sensitise his people to respect the Benue anti-open grazing law.

But Blueprint learnt that the suspected herdsmen, armed with sophisticated weapons, while grazing around 2:30 pm Monday attacked and killed Titus Nyitar in his farm.

The herdsmen were said to have after killing the man, gone to Iye-Uvir, also in Guma and abducted a woman.

A resident of Guma, who simply gave his name as Atero, said it took the timely intervention of combined effort of the military and NSCDC Agro Rangers unit patrol team posted in the area to rescue the woman.

“The Fulani herdsmen came and attacked my village at Iye-Uvir, Guma LGA of Benue state at about 4pm on Monday 20th April 2020.

“One of my brother’s wives abducted during the attack has been rescued by the combined efforts of civil defense and military men on patrol.

“I am appealing to the Benue state government to send soldiers to fortify security in the area,” he said.

But when contacted the Benue police command spokesperson, DSP Catherine Sewuese Anene, said she had put calls to the DPO in Guma who is supposed to give him the report but was yet to go through.
