Suspected Fayose thugs attack Fayemi’s convoy

The convoy of Ekiti state Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, was yesterday attacked in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, by suspected thugs working for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Mr Ayo Fayose.
The attack occurred around 6pm when the governor and his supporters were returning to Ado-Ekiti from a campaign rally in Ekiti East local government area of the state.
The thugs numbering about 100 suddenly emerged from Fayose’s Campaign Office, throwing stones and bottles at the governor’s vehicle and vehicles belonging to members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who accompanied the governor on the campaign tour.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Olayinka Oyebode, said in a statement that but for the governor who restrained his security aides and party supporters from retaliating, there would have been some casualties in the attack that lasted a few minutes.
The statement said some APC loyalists, however, sustained minor injuries in the melee, while some vehicles had their windscreens smashed by stones thrown by the rampaging thugs.
Yesterday’s incident, it recalled, came barely a week after the April 1 attack on some APC supporters by suspected thugs working for the PDP candidate along the Adebayo area of the state capital.
