Suspected human trafficking kingpin arrested in Ogun

 

 

Men of the Ogun State Police Command have apprehended a human trafficking kingpin, Comfort Innocent, over the abduction and trafficking of two under- aged girls.

The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement made available to journalists in Abeokuta on Monday, said the suspect was arrested on the 22nd of December, 2020.

According to Oyeyemi, her arrest followed a report by Mr Oluwaseun Aduratola and Ms Sakirat Fasasi both residents of Siun town in Obafemi Owode local government area of the state who reported at the Owode Egba Police Station that the suspect abducted their daughters namely Blessing Aduratola and Hasisat Fasasi.

They lodged the complaints that the suspect was about taking two girls to Libya where they will be forced into prostitution.

On the strength of the report, the Divisional Police Officer, Owode Egba division, CSP Mathew Ediae, quickly swung into action with his detectives and through intelligence-driven investigation, succeeded in arresting the suspect.

The suspect, however, confessed to be a human trafficker, saying that she has been in the ‘business’ for a very long time. 

She also said her husband is based in Italy while she stayed in Nigeria to recruit young girls and send them to him in Italy enroute Libya where they will be forced into prostitution.

 Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun, had ordered for the immediate transfer of the suspect to anti- human trafficking and child labour unit of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for further investigation.

The CP also appealed to parents to always be mindful of their children’s well-being, especially the female ones in order to save them from criminal-minded individuals.
