Suspected ritualist burnt to death by angry mob in Bayelsa


Angry mob at Akenfa have burnt a suspected ritualist who was caught ‘butchering’ the body of a lady he killed to death.

The incident happened at the Akenfa area of Yenagoa the Bayelsa state capital.

Blueprint learnt he was caught while trying to cut open the body of the young lady identified as Best, an indigene of Epie, when luck ran out of him and was apprehended by the mob.

Eyewitnesses said the angry mob were angered that the man challenged them with the axe he used for his nefarious activities and threatened to kill again.

Community sources said the man who is well known in the community behaved like a mad man in the day time but has been killing people at night, especially women.

The source said late Best, was his latest victim as three other ladies have lost their lives in the same circumstances in the last one month.

The source who didn’t want her name in print said, “That is the guy that has been killing women at Akenfa. They caught him once when he was trying to kill another woman, I think that was last month, they beat him up but did not hand him over to the police.

“He was still saying he will kill. This morning he killed one Epie girl, they caught him when he was trying to butcher her with an axe. This was the third woman he has killed so far.

Confirming the incident, the Bayelsa Police spokesman Asinim Butswat, said both the suspected ritualist and murdered women were known to be mentally sick.
