National Chairman of the Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU), Mr. Biobelemoye Josiah, has said that the Union called off its six weeks old nationwide strike because of its empathy for the suffering Nigerians.
He stated this yesterday in a communiqué issued by the union at the end of its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.
The union resolved that court should take over the negotiations between JOHESU and government in its Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) centre, where the two sides would have to nominate their representatives within 24 hours of the NICN judgment.
“The Federal Ministry of Health and Federal Ministry of Labour shall nominate officers that have authority to negotiate on its behalf, while the Honourable Minister of Health and Honourable Minister of Labour shall not be part of the committee.
The union further requested that: the agreement reached at the ADR centre, should be registered in the court as judgment binding on both parties and JOHESU would initiate the process of allowing normalcy to return to hospitals within three days and that both parties should be ordered to maintain the status-quo ante bellum while negotiation lasted.
“We would like to place on record that JOHESU strike actions is neither ill nor politically motivated, but in a bid to save the health sector from imminent collapse,” he said.
