Taekwondo Athletes ‘ll deliver at African Games – Okuomose

Current National Champion in the Male +87kg heavyweight division has commended the training camp preparations ahead of Taekwondo’s opener at the on-going All African Games in Morocco.

Despite having two world champions in his category – Niger Republic’s Alfaga and Gabon’s Anthony Obame, who are also Olympic Medlliats, the 24-year old Okuomose is optimistic of pulling off upsets to come away with the Gold medal in that category.

“The camp was wonderful. We learnt so many new training techniques that will help us at the All African Games. The training has been so good that we believe that we are going to deliver at the All African Games. Our expectation is the Gold medal”

Nigeria has traditionally done very well in the heavy weight category and have won a medal in that category since 1987 when Pius Ilukhor won Nigeria’s gold in Nigeria Taekwondo’s debut at the tournament.

Emmanuel Peter won a Gold at the 1991 edition. David Adams won a Silver at the 1999 edition. Current Technical Director of the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation and three-time Olympian, Engr. Chika Chukwumerije, won a Bronze at the 2003 edition, Gold at the 2007 edition and Silver at the 2011 edition.
