It will be another set time for Taekwondo display by mainly school Athletes when the first-ever 2019 prix series gets underway on Saturday, April 27, 2019 in Abuja.

Already, about 50 Athletes from Benue, Zamfara, Abia, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have been confirmed to be ready for the sporting fiesta put together by Chika Chukwumerije Sports Foundation (CCSF).

Speaking ahead of the competition tagged ‘headmaster’, coordinator Ms Latifah Abdulwahab said the current edition would be particularly focus on targeting opponent’s head as only scoring point.

Abdulwahab stated that the essence was to develop Nigerian Taekwondo Athletes in using head kicks to garner high points whenever they face anyone on the floor.

She said 2019 series would feature four editions, with each of them witnessing different and peculiar fighting styles.

According to her, “Over the years, we have observed that Nigerian athletes find it difficult to score points by kicking the opponent’s head, this competition will help to make them learn how to garner points especially when they feature at any international competition.

“We decided to limit participation that is why we are expecting just about 50 athletes. We have very few seniors. our major focus is on kiddies and cadets. That’s where it all starts.”

A programme scheduled released on Friday indicated that accreditation will be by 7am while fight begins by 9am with medals’ presentation slated for 4pm.

Various Taekwondo clubs including defending champions Eagles tkd, Brickhall, Octagon, Perfecto, Talented Trios, Club champion Marshall art academy, Thelma, Kiddies, Bullet kick, among other tkds are also expected to feature their athletes.
