Tanker explosion: Benue confirms 13 deaths, 42 injured

 

Special Adviser to Governor Samuel Ortom on Media and ICT, Mr. Tahav Agerzua, has said 13 deaths have been confirmed and 42 others lying critical ill from tankers explosion that took place in Gbatse Ushongo local government area of Benue state.

Agerzua, who made this known after visiting victims of the disaster at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) Makurdi as well as health facilities in Ushongo and Adikpo towns, expressed worry over the high number of persons killed by the explosion.

He said apart from the four persons that died on the spot, nine others lost their lives while receiving treatment in various hospitals.
He commended medical personnel for responding swiftly to the victims, saying the situation saved many from dying.

“I am shock at the magnitude of the disaster, which has so far claimed 13 lives and left 42 persons on admission in various hospitals.

“I am calling on public spirited individuals and organisations to rally round the victims, who require support in their hour of need,” he added.

The District Head of Mbayegh, Chief Nathaniel Hoyo and his council members conducted the Adviser round the hospitals in Ushongo and Adikpo towns.

Speaking with newsmen Hoyo expressed appreciation to Governor Ortom for footing the bills for the treatment of the victims and appealed to him to also assist families in burying the dead.
