Tanko to Amina Zakari: You better resign now, give way for credible polls

Presidential candidate of the National Conscience Party (NCP), Dr Yunusa Tanko has called on the embattled National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Amina Zakari to resign her appointment from the commission.

Yunusa , a former chairman of the Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC)  said Amina’s resignation from the electoral body was crucial to the Commission’s and President Muhammadu Buhari’s repeated assurance of free and fair conduct of the election.

The party chieftain made the call at the weekend in Abuja while reacting to the allegation by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that the INEC commissioner was related to President Muhammadu Buhari, alleging that  it will compromise the commission.

Yunusa argued that no matter how good Amina is, her continued stay as a commissioner in the commission in such a crucial election that will decide the fate of Nigeria, will rub off on the integrity of the commission and the President.

He insisted that since an aspersion has been cast on her integrity and neutrality in the  forth coming election, as well as her alleged role in Ekiti and Osun elections  the best thing for the chairman is to excuse her and replace her with another commission , adding that there are 12 national commissioners who are qualified to do the same job.

Yunusa said “No matter how good Amina is, there is no gain saying that she has a relation with President Muhammadu Buhari , it will rub off on the integrity of INEC and the  President. I found it ridiculous that people are still defending it. There are series of accusation in the Ekiti and Osun election, that  puts an aspersion on her and she should toe the honorable pact to give the elections credibility, if I were her, I would have ask the chairman to excuse me”
