Taraba agog as Blueprint nominates Ishaku for award

Taraba state capital and other major towns in the state Thursday was agog as news broke that Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku has been nominated for an award by the management of Blueprint newspaper.

The jubilation which started from ATC area in Jalingo had students of the Taraba State University, politicians and market women shouting “Daram! Dam Dam.”

Some students that spoke to Blueprint in Jalingo expressed happiness that Governor Ishaku’s footprint in education since 2015 to date has placed Taraba state on a high premium.

A student of the state university, Peter Baissa Shiwa, said since Governor Ishaku became the number one citizen of the state, his administration has done excellently well to ensure that empowering both teachers and students in the state get the best that is required.

“I Know that in 2015, he organised a seminar tagged “Train the Teacher.The seminar was held for two days and professionals were used to train teachers, principals, which today play a vital role in revitalising the teachers and thus boosting their morale.

“Sequel to the aforementioned, in 2016, for the first time in history, Taraba got 63.7 % in WAEC, which was a great achievement to the educational sector and the state at large.

“A year later, after all hands were put on deck to improve education and teacher’s welfare to a reasonable extent, Taraba emerged number 8th in the whole of Nigeria with an excellent WAEC result,” he said.

He added that from 2015 till day, Ishaku recruited over 3, 000 teachers and trained them.

He noted that he also increased the number of professors at the Taraba state University from 4 to 56 which today is a morale booster for the state.

Also, an undergraduate student with the state university, Jowan Loti expressed appreciation to the governor saying that he increased TSU faculties from 4 to 8 faculties and introduced accreditation of many courses which includes law , health sciences, engineering among others.
