Taraba Assembly adopts report on Grazing Bill

Taraba state House of Assembly ad-hoc committee on the Taraba state open grazing prohibition and ranches establishment Bill 2017, yesterday laid their report on the fl oor of the House and unanimously adopted by members. A motion to enable the House resolve into the committee of the whole, was moved by the Majority Leader, Hon. Joseph Albasu Kunini, representing Lau constituency and was seconded by Hon. Josiah Aji, representing Wukari 1 constituency. Chairman of the ad-hoc committee , Hon. Dr. Mark Useni sought a resolution of the members to prevail on the executive arm to give six months grace before implementation so that proper awareness of the bill could be created.

He, on behalf of the other members of the committee appreciated the House and the people of the state for the confi dence reposed on them by allowing them to carry out such a crucial assignment for the state. Th e committee chairman, however, emphasised that throughout the public hearing on the Bill across the three senatorial zones of the state, it was proofed that there was no wrong impression on the Bill among those that submitted their memorandum and alsoinformed the house that those opposed to the Bill were doing it out of limited information and knowledge.

“Th e fact of the matter is that there has been heighten ignorance, misconceptions and total lack of understanding of the bill and eff ect of the law when it comes into force” Useni stated. During deliberations, three out of 23 members opposed to the Bill, but after exhaustive deliberations the Speaker, Hon Peter Abel Diah, into a voice vote and the response was unanimous for the Bill. Th e Speaker commended the members of the committee for a thorough job and thanked the members for supporting the Bill to end the chaos in the state.
