Taraba Assembly passed 24 bills in 2018 – Speaker

The speaker of Taraba state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abel Peter Diah, on Wednesday disclosed that the state 8th house of assembly in 2018 passed 24 bills that were assented into law.

Diah, who stated this in Jalingo during the pre-inauguration induction and training for members elect said several resolution, with many other bills in 2018 passed through various stages of completion.

“Despite the daunting challenges the house faced during the period under review, ranging from communual clashes,  insurgencies,  open grazing prohibition and ranching bill and the kidnapping of late Hon. Hosia Ibi that eventually lead to his death,  the house  performed credibly well” he said. 

He explained that the legislature is an esteemed armed of government that was primarily empowered by the constitution with the mandate of law making and intensive oversight.

He noted that the essence of the retreat was to expose new members-elect with modus operandi of the legislative activities.

“Members-elect would be acquainted with the general functions and roles of law making, the principle of separation of power and the doctrine of checks and balances.

According to him, the remarkable achievement in the 8th assembly was largely due to the unity of purpose and the mutual trust the house enjoyed as one big family in 2018.
