Taraba assembly re-elects former speaker for the 3rd time

The Taraba state House of Assembly on Monday re-elected the former speaker of the 8the assembly,  Rt Hon Abel Peter Diah to lead the house in 9th assembly.

Diah, speaking shortly as he was sworn-in, said his leadership as the speaker of the 9th assembly would make the welfare of all members top most priority.

Diah, who is the longest serving legislator in the state assembly, is representing Mbamnga constituency for the fifth time.

He was nominated by the member-elect for Takum 2 constituency, Dr  Mark Bako Useni, and was seconded by John Kizito, member-elect for Zing constituency.

Also member-elect for Yorro constituency, Danladi Mohammed was also sworn in as the deputy speaker of the 9th Assembly. 

The newly elected speaker appreciated members-elect for the unanimous support he received to retain his seat as speaker for the third time. 

“This is indeed the third consecutive time you are offering me this rare opportunity and I won’t take this great trust and confidence you bestowed upon me for granted. 

“I wholeheartedly accept this renewed mandate today and wish to further pledge the best of my service to each one of you and to the entire good people of Taraba state”, he said.

Further, he promised that the ninth assembly would make laws that can positively impact on the people and transform Taraba state.

 “We, therefore, look forward to a vibrant people-oriented ninth assembly that will have robust legislative activities capable of fast tracking development in the state”, he informed.

The Clerk of the State Assembly, Mellah Orngu later did a roll call of the members elect before they were sworn in by the speaker.
