Taraba gets 56,250 AstraZenecavaccines

The Taraba state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Innocent Vakkai Thursday stated that the state has received 56,250 AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.

Vakkai, who stated this in Jalingo said the vaccine is primarily at the moment targeted to front line workers and those at the isolation centers.

The permanent secretary, Ministry of Health, Mr Ebenezer Apakhe, spoke on behalf of his commissioner and said health personnel are already trained to administer the vaccine across the state.

He noted that the state Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) would maintain the immunization centers for polio as vaccination centres for COVID-19.

He added that Governor Ishaku and his deputy, Haruna Manu, will be first vaccinated to assure those that don’t believe in the vaccine.

On his part, the executive secretary, Taraba state NPHCDA Alhaji Aminu Hassan Jauro, said the vaccines will be administered solely to front line health workers. They include those working at the isolation centers, treatment centers, including trained and untrained staffs across the state, before every other health worker in the state. Attention would later be given to adults from 18 years and above.

“We have already done the profile of all health workers in the state which includes those at tertiary, secondary, and primary health care facilities, and also those at private and faith-based facilities,” he said.
