Taraba quarantines 134 travellers

The Taraba COVID-19 committee has quarantined 134 travellers traveling from other states.

Chairman of the committee, Dr Innocent Vakkai, disclosed this, Thursday while inspecting quarantine facility at the NYSC orientation camp in Jalingo.

Vakkai, who is the state Commissioner for Health, said that the committee deemed it necessary to visit and inspect the facility.

He said the suspects that were undergoing quarantine process were intercepted by security operatives at different entry points into the state.

He also said some of the suspects were traveling from Bauchi en route Gombe, describing Bauchi as one of the states affected states affected by coronavirus.

 He said some of the travellers were coming from Yobe, adding that they must undergo tests to ascertain their COVID-19 status.

The commissioner said the state would do everything possible to prevent people likely to carry the virus from other places into the state.

One of the drivers of the impounded vehicles, Mallam Abubakar Ahmad, told journalists that he is an indigene of Taraba, saing said he loaded the passengers from Azare in Bauchi to Mutum Biyu.

He appealed to the state government to allow them to go home and prepare for Ramadan fast after undergoing the tests.

He also complained of lack of adequate care on the part of the committee.

Blueprint reports that three 14-seater buses fully loaded were intercepted by the security agencies.

Most of the suspects quarantined were women.
