Tatari Ali Polytechnic donates tricycles to disabled students

As part of efforts to encourage its physically challenged students, the management of Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic (ATAP) Bauchi has donated tricycles to selected beneficiaries.

Rector of the Polytechnic Dr Suleiman Lame while distributing the vehicles on Wednesday explained that they had so far given out 40 tricycles to disabled students free of charge with some financial support to enable them carry out their studies without hitches.

He said many disabled students are currently studying in the polytechnic free of charge adding that such students are also exempted from paying tuition and departmental fees and enjoy free accommodation in the institution.

He described the effort as an attempt by the management of the institution to reduce street begging by encouraging qualified disabled students to further their education in the polytechnic.

According to him, disabled students who possess the requisite qualification can apply for admission for Degree, HND, ND or any certificate course being offered by the institution.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Maryam Ibrahim a student of mass communication  and Muhammad Sani Umar of computer science , thanked the management of ATAP for the gesture.

According to them, the tricycles would not only boost their morale to learn but would ease their suffering interms of transporting themselves to and from the school for daily lectures and other academic activities.
