Teacher arraigned for ‘raping’ 9-year-old pupil

Bauchi state Ministry of Justice has sued a primary school teacher, Mr James Dantayi, for allegedly raping a nine-year-old girl, Hauwa’u Ahmed, in his office.

The case of rape between the State Vs Mr James Dantayi was filed before Bauchi state High Court presided over by Justice Aliyu Baba Usman.

Prosecution counsel, Barrister Rukayyatu IKewar, told the court that the accused had carnal knowledge of the pupil in his office, and that the girl sustained injuries and that the offence was contrary to Section 283 of the Penal Code Law.
The accused denied the charges.

When the case was mentioned on Wednesday, counsel to the accused, Barrister Obadia J. Buchi, observed that the name of the second prosecution witness was not submitted to the court due to oversight and sought adjournment to enable them put their house in order.
Presiding judge, Justice Aliyu Baba Usman, granted the application and adjourned the case to April 4 (today) for continuation of hearing.
