Teachers’ recruitment: Applicants ‘frustrated’ over disfunctional website in Akwa Ibom

Applicants for the Akwa Ibom state government 1000 teachers’ recruitment have expressed displeasure over the disfunctional website they encountered.
It was observed that the portal for submission of application forms by prospective applicants has remained non-functional more than 24 hours after the said date (January 18th 2021) for commencement.

The recruitment recruitment exercise is to be handled by the Akwa Ibom State Secondary Education Board (SSEB), headed by Dr Ekaette Ebong Okon.
Blueprint correspondent who visited some centres in the state, reports that  computer business operators could not access the recruitment portal for registration as multitude of applicants were seen trying to register without success.

One of the operators, Mr Anthony Edet, who spoke with Blueprint, said since the date for the commencement of the registration, he had resorted to only receiving of documents from applicants.
Edet said he would scan the documents while waiting for the registration portal to open but they (applicants) would return in annoyance and ask for the refund of money which was the service charge, because of frustration.

“Since they (state government) announced that the recruitment exercise would commence on Monday 18th, we are yet to register any applicants.
“We have since been resorted to merely receiving documents of applicants for scanning while waiting endlessly to see the recruitment portal fixed only for some applicants to return to ask for refund of their money earlier paid for the services as a result of frustration,” he said.
A prospective applicant who did not want her name mentioned said the exercise was frustrating, adding that she had been visiting cyber cafe daily to register but could not.

Another prospective applicant who also pleaded annonymity said he was disappointed and shocked that after giving out his documents to a computer business operator since Monday, he could not be registered.

Meanwhile, the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Comrade Ini Ememobong, in a telephone interview with Blueprint, comfirmed that there were some technical issues hampering the process.

He appealed to intending applicants to exercise patience while the site is being restored by the technical team of the state secondary education board which is directly involved in the recruitment.
“Education board had issued a statement acknowledging that they have technical issues with the site and they are working to correct it.
“If you have a little patient, they (education board) would correct it,” he added.
However, the recruitment process was billed to end on January for interested applicants but it is now uncertain whether the deadline would be extended couple with the current hitches being experienced.
