Technician appears in court for allegedly purchasing stolen handsets

 

The police Wednesday arraigned a technician, Mohammed Abubakar, at a Grade I Area Court in Mpape, Abuja for allegedly purchasing stolen handsets.

The prosecution counsel, Mr Edwin Ochayi, told the court that on January  1, Abubakar, 25, who lives at Gishiri village, Abuja, allegedly bought a Techno and a Gionee handset.

Ochayi said the handsets were bought from one Emmanuel Sunday and Abdulmalik Wahab respectively, both resident at Mpape, Abuja, and now at large.

He said the handsets were valued at N60, 000, which were purchased for N25,000, knowing that they were stolen.

Ochayi  also said that the complainant, Mohammed, reported the case at Mpape Police station on the same day.

The prosecutor added that the offence contravene the provisions of section 316 of the Penal Code.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The judge, Salihu Ibrahim, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N250,000 with one surety in the like sum.

He adjourned the case until January  29 for hearing. (NAN)
