Tell Nigerians why result declaration was suspended in Rivers, others, YIAGA AFRICA tasks INEC

YIAGA Africa Watching The Vote has told the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that it owned Nigerians an explanation on the reasons results collation was suspended in some LGAs in Rivers and other states after election.
Chair, Watching The Vote Working Group Dr Hussaini Abdu during a press conference on Sunday in Abuja said transparency of the results collation process electionwas central to the integrity of the elections and the acceptability of its outcome.


According to him, INEC must uphold the values of openness and integrity in the collation process as well as ensure all collation centers are accessible to accredited observers, media and party agents.
He calls for the prosecution of electoral offenders arrested by security.

According to him, these includes the sanctions of military personnel who disrupted the process.
He said INEC remained the only Institution with the legal mandate to announce election results and declare the winner as such citizens, political parties and their supporters should respect the mandate of the thecommission and reduce the spread of misinformation.
