Tenure elongation: Lagos APC thumbs up Buhari

Elders in the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have thumbed up for President Muhammadu Buhari for declaring as illegal the tenure elongation of Chief John Oyegun and other members of the national executives.
The elders spoke through their leader, Alhaji Tajudeen Olusi, said the decision to jettison the tenure elongation for national and state executives was a demonstration of maturity and support of internal democracy.
It would be recalled that President Buhari had on Tuesday rejected the decision of NEC to extend the tenure beyond June ending, following series of protest against the decision including that carried out by the Lagos APC chapter.
Accordingly, Olusi said the Lagos APC had been vindicated by Buhari’s statement and therefore pleased that the President spoke the truth on the matter.
“We in Lagos APC are very happy that President Muhammadu Buhari has spoken the truth on the tenure elongation saga.
“This state chapter has recently called the attention of the party and that of the president to the fact that the decision to extend the tenure was against the constitution of the party and that of the country.
“We are happy that the president has examined the issue and has taken the right position. We want to commend him.
“We want to thank him, we want to congratulate him on this and we wish him all the best in the next election,” he said noting that Lagos APC would always operate in accordance with the constitution of the party.
“We are awaiting directives on the issue from the party,” he said.
