Terrorism: Women mourn, call for overhaul of checkpoints

Women across the country have condemned the continuous killings of innocent school children by insurgents, particularly in the North-East, saying this was callous and disrespect for human lives.

National President, National Council of Women Societies (NCWS), Mrs. Nkechi Mba, in a statement, described the killing of the over 59 students of the Federal Government Secondary School, Buni Yadim in Yobe state, as ‘unwanted’.

According to Mba, women were ‘shocked  and grief-stricken’ since the news was broadcast, thereby calling for various security measures and check-points to be re-enforced and more effectively supervised, adding that culprits should be brought to book.
She said: “Nigerian women have been weeping since then, as our poor children were asleep and totally helpless. On behalf of Nigerian women I condemn in strong terms these frequent killings of innocent women and children by terrorists.

“Over 59 innocent students of Federal Government Secondary School, Buni Yadi, in Yobe state, have been killed in their helpless conditions. The insurgents also razed buildings within the school premises last Monday night and this is unacceptable.

She added: “As mothers, we have been grief-stricken since we received the news, and it must be stopped. We all mourn their deaths, and may God comfort the nuclear family members of the deceased children.”
