Terrorists, sovereignty agitators can’t break Nigeria — Sule

Speaking recently on the state of the nation, elderstatesman, Alhaji Maitama Sule confidently declared that Nigeria will not break up despite the hostilities confronting it in the North-east, South South and South -east. ALIYU ASKIRA reports

On state of the nation
Nigeria’s former Permanent Representative to the United Nations and elder statesman Alhaji Maitama Sule in a statement in Kano has condemned the activities of separatist groups like Movement for Actualization of State of Biafra, Indigenous Peoples of Biafra and the Boko Haram menace which has held the country hostage for over four years will not break up this country.
Sule who was Minister for Information and Petroleum Resources in the first republic respectively and presidential aspirant on the banner of the defunct NPN in the second republic noted that whatever is happening today, should be blamed on those who allowed the Boko Haram activities to almost destroy the northern part of Nigeria leading to loss of thousands of lives and billions of naira including destruction of several homes and villages.

Those who were opportune to witness the Biafra war which lasted for three years and at the end, it was declared no winner no vanquish by the Gowon administration to give people from south east sense of blogging to re-integrate fully into the Nigerian State will never pray for another war to befall Nigeria again. Those now agitating for separation are members of younger generation who did not witness the Biafran crises.

The Dan Masani Kano who was expressing his thoughts to welcome Nigerian Muslims into the Holy month of Ramadan as an elder statesman, expressed profound regrets that some Nigerians who have nothing to offer to the development of this country have allow the Boko Haram crises which was started by a small group of Islamic fundamentalists to grow into a dread fighter group that has almost destroyed the northern part of Nigeria when the former government which was elected by Nigerian’s across the board was watching and did not do anything to stop it.

On President Buhari’s medical trip to London
Sule expressed shock when President Buhari travelled to London few days ago for an ear problem because already some prophets of doom are posting all sort of garbage on the social media. He said: this president, whether some people like it or not is one that was elected freely and with even contribution from ordinary masses. It is therefore our duty to pray for him to live long and restore our lost glory.

Dan Masani who is also the chairman of Northern Elders Forum hinted that whether one like it or not in 2023, or in 2019 if President Buhari decides to contest or not to contest the presidency of this country must shift to other geo political zones, so since south west with Obasanjo had eight years, south-south with President Jonathan spent six years, the south east has the chance to produce next president if they play their card very well, as such, there is no need to agitate for separation or destroy our oil wells in the name of fighting for their right, especially the group that called its self Avengers, what are they avenging when the immediate past president was their son.

On thoughts on recovered loots
Similarly, he wants President Buhari to quickly inject funds recovered in from corrupt Nigerians into the economy so that our moribund industries can be resuscitated for people to get jobs, whether one like it or not, today Nigerians are facing the worst form of hardship ever witnessed since Nigerian gained independence from the British in 1960.

Assessing the economy under Buhari’s one year rule
People are suffering beyond explanation, prices of food stuffs are going up every day, marriages are broken up on daily basis, and level of street begging is increasing. Since the President himself has accepted and made the public through Federal Ministry of Information that the government recovered billions in cash and properties including hard currencies in trillions, the government should quickly come up with palliative measures that will cushion the suffering that people are facing.

That is the only thing that will compensate the ordinary people for the way and manner they insisted since 2003 that it is Buhari they want to be their President
Whether we like it or not, with the Boko Haram crises, the MASSOB agitation and other militant groups like the Avengers who threatening to bomb Aso Rock, Police Headquarters, CBN, DSS office in Abuja, and other strategic places from their hide out in the Niger Delta, what Nigeria needs is serious prayers.

Because for the country to return to pre PDP government that lasted for 16 years will be difficult, the last government had mismanaged its mandate and allowed Nigeria to be come a Banana republic where one man will be stealing trillions of naira and serving generals looting money meant for arms and some criminals were allowed to be lifting oil simply because the last government was weak and corrupt. Nigerian’s should put hands on deck and pray that the last 16 years of our history will not happen again. Buhari should be supported by all Nigerian’s to do his bid and leave the stage peacefully for others to continue.
