TETFund to spend over N600m in Billiri COE

The Gombe State College of Education (COE) Billiri has received the sum of 647.3 million naira intervention from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) in 2019.  

 Provost of the College, Dr Langa Hassan, stated this in an interview with the news men in COE Billiri on Thursday.

 “Out of the amount accessed, N186.3 million was zonal intervention which the school dedicated to the construction of academic staff offices, purchase of 90 desktop computers, 15 photocopiers, 20 printers, solar street light among other things.

“The college is facing a security threat especially in the night because it is not connected to the national grid hence the need for the solar street light.

“The remaining N461.million was dedicated to the construction of twin lecture theaters, purchase of library books, construction of micro teaching labs, staff conferences, training, teaching practice among other things.

He said out of the internally generated revenue the college was able to construct a central store, renovate the school guest house, employed the service of 15 vigilantes to work because of the porous nature of the school.

The provost said lack of hostel accommodation was a major challenge discouraging enrollment of students in the school.

He said the previous administration had started constructing hostels but along the line abandoned the project, calling on sprinted individuals to come and build hostels in the school.

 The provost said the college has graduated its first set of students and the students had equally written the Teacher Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) exams and passed.
