The appointment for the 2023 Atiku Presidential Campaign Organisation of Udom Emmanuel as chairman and Aminu Tambuwal as director general, has indeed shown in words and deeds the confidence the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) reposes in these two serving governors of Akwa Ibom and Sokoto states, respectively.
It is indeed a welcome development as Udom and Tambuwal both have the experience, competence, reach and maturity to steer the opposition out of the present crises it is going through and ensure victory for the party at the 2023 presidential poll.
Media reports on the appointments were far reaching and as expected generated mixed reactions, online and offline.
But, PDP members loyal to Nyesom Wike, Governor of Rivers state, who are rooting for the removal of Iyorchia Ayu as national chairman of the party, have pulled out of the presidential council, maintaining their stands that Ayu-must go.
In the days, weeks, and months ahead, I join other right thinking Nigerians to plead with Udom and his team to do everything within their powers to ensure that the Ayu issue is resolved ahead of the flag-off of the presidential campaign and subsequently the election next year.
Atiku has said it repeatedly that the removal of Ayu can be accomplished but, it has to go through the laws of the PDP as enshrined in its constitution. He is right here.
Therefore, I plead that the Wike camp should see reason and come together and work to ensure that the opposition party takes over from the ruling APC come 2023.
God bless Nigeria
