There’s more to Moses than Samuel Kalu The 21-year-old put in a – Obuh

The 21-year-old put in a – Obuh decent shift on his Super Eagles bow prompting suggestions the Chelsea winger’s impact won’t be felt Victor Moses’ importance to Nigeria should never be forgotten after Samuel Kalu’s impressive international debut against Seychelles, says John Obuh.
The Chelsea player, at 27, called time on a decent six-year stint with the national team after the Super Eagles’ unsuccessful outing at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
During his time in the Green and White strripes, Moses helped Nigeria to an African Cup of Nations triumph in 2013 and played integral roles in helping the country qualify for two consecutive World Cup [Brazil 2014 and Russia 2018] campaigns.
And any hint coach Gernot Rohr would struggle without the former England youth international was eased after Bordeaux summer signing Kalu posted a brilliant outing against Gavin Jeanne’s side in Vitoria on Saturday, leaving fans with much delight.
The winger was a handful for the Pirates defence and was hacked down in the box for Odion Ighalo to wrap up the 3-0 victory.
Although he acknowledged the impressive outing, Obuh warns that the former Gent player – and other potential Moses replacements – have a huge boot to fill.
“We can’t forget anybody of that level.
Victor Moses was an integral member of the Super Eagles so we can’t just, overnight, see somebody play [a game] and think we are going to forget about him,” Obuh told Goal.
“However, I think Samuel Kalu played very well and I believe, by the grace of God, as he plays along he’ll improve more on his game but he tried against Seychelles.” In terms of fulfilling tactical requirements, the former Nigeria U20 handler highlighted Moses’ versatility which made him an important asset to coaches.
While turning out for Nigeria, Moses has had to play in defensive, midfield and attacking roles.
And former Chelsea coach Antonio Conte used him as a right wingback for two seasons – a move Rohr and Nigeria would later benefit from in games against Iceland and Argentina at the 2018 World Cup.
“But you know one thing is Victor Moses is not just a wing player.
You can only use him to play as a winger depending on the formation,” he continued.
“One can never say that we are looking for a wing player [to succeed him].
We are looking for a versatile player who can play from the wings and come back into the midfield.” Moses, an English Premier League and Uefa Europa League winner, stated that his shock decision was to enable him to concentrate on his club career.
This season, the 27-year-old has only been afforded nine minutes under new coach Maurizio Sarri, who stated that he must improve as a proper winger for a chance in his 4-3-3 set-up.
On the other hand, Kalu will hope to continue from where he stopped on Saturday as Nigeria take on Liberia in a friendly encounter on Tuesday
