Arsenal and France football legend, Thierry Henry has been crowned as the Igwe 1 of football at a ceremony in Lagos.
The Frenchman who was brought to Lagos by a beverage company for a promotional campaign for its product, arrived Murtala Mohammed airport to a rousing welcome by football fans dorning Arsenal jersies, the club at which Henry made his name.
Henry, also affectionately called the vavazoom, played alongside Nigeria’s Nwankwo Kanu in trophy laiden era for the North London club. His dexterity for scoring goals earned him the nickname, Igwe among football lovers in Nigeria.
Arsenal still has large following in Nigeria.
According to the Cable, the Footballer participated in a Jollof Rice cooking event which was put together as part of events for his visit.
