Third tier delegate wants conference to rescue local governments

A representative of third tier of government from Adamawa state, Hon Emmanuel Tsamdu, has called on the National Conference to ensure that autonomy is given to of local governments, pointing out that local governments development has been stifled by lack of autonomy.
Tsamdu explained that the local government chairmen act as appointees of the governors who were not elected by the people.
According to him, the issue of the joint account has stifled the local government development explaining that the joint account implied sharing of internally generated revenue from the state and not the allocation from the federation account.

The two time local government chairman from Adamawa state commended the wisdom of the leadership of the conference for its wisdom in selecting the 50 wise men who sorted out the percentage of voting as part of the rules of procedure.
Hon Tsamdu who described the 50 wise men as elders and men of integrity said even in individual families contentious issues were resolved by elders stating that it was the agreement of the conference that the chairman should go ahead and appoint them.

He said delegates converged last Sunday at various venues and were briefed by their various representatives among the 50 wise men on the outcome of the meeting saying they all welcomed the development.
The former local government chairman was of the view that what was most important to the delegates was for the conference to be successful and meet the expectation of Nigerians.
