A Kano state Magistrate’s Court presided by Chief Magistrate Halima Nasir has adjourned its sitting to April 22, this year, for hearing in a criminal case of conspiracy, inciting disturbances and causing hurt against one Abba Mai Doki and his three other accused siblings.
The four suspects were alleged to have attacked some horse riders during Sallah Durbar in Rano District Area on November 9, 2013. Other suspects in the case are Ado Sarki, Isiyaku Sarki Aminu Sarki.
According to the police’s First Information Report tendered in court by prosecutor Inspector Ilyas Muhd, the Emir of Rano, Alhaji Tafida Abubakar, wrote a letter of complaint to the Kano state Commissioner of Police in which he alleged that one Abba Mai Doki, while riding on horse conspired with three others and stormed into the durbar procession armed with machetes, knives and sticks thereby causing grievous injuries on Mustapha Sunusi Sarki and Sadik Ado.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge which, according to the prosecutor, contravened Sections 97, 144 and 244 of Penal Code Law.
When the case came up for hearing the police prosecution informed the court that he was not ready to proceed on the ground that the witnesses he intended to call were at the Emir of Kano palace for an urgent meeting, and, therefore, prayed for adjournment.
In its ruling, Chief Magistrate Halima Nasir adjourned to April 22, for hearing and ordered the prosecution to present its witnesses in the next sitting.
