Time to negotiate with Boko Haram on electricity in Borno

Electricity is one of the most important blessings that Almighty God has given to mankind. It has also become a part of modern life and one cannot think of a world without it. Electricity has many uses in our day to day life. It is used for lighting rooms, working fans and domestic appliances like electric stoves, air conditioner and more. All these provide comfort to people. In factories, schools, large machines are worked with the help of electricity. Essential items like food, cloth, paper and many others are products of electricity.

Electricity also provides means of amusement, radio and television, which are the most popular means of sending information as the result of electricity. Modern equipment like computers have also been developed because of electricity. Electricity plays a pivotal role in the fields of medicines and surgery too — such as X-ray, ECG. The use of electricity is increasing day by day.

Borno state has been without electricity for almost two months after the destruction of electric high tension in the state by Boko Haram. After a long blackout, the state government in its effort to restore electricity supply in the state, succeded on March 24, 202, when people in the state saw electricity for the first time in two months; it was jubilation galore in the state. After enjoying the electricity for three days, the insurgents again planted two booms which caused another destruction of the electric high tension along Maiduguri and Damaturu axis.

It is high time the federal and state governments intervened and ended this destruction of electric power by Boko Haram because the people in the state are in need of government’s intervention especially to us in the University of Maiduguri as it may adversely affect our academics.

If government can’t tackle the Boko Haram insurgency government should negotiate with them (Boko Haram insurgents) like the government is doing on the issue of school abduction. By this, people in Borno state will have a peace. May Almighty God bring an end to all insurgencies and restore peace in all parts of Nigeria. Amen.
