Tinubu: FOMWAN preaches women inclusion, lauds INEC

A non-profit civil society group, the Federation of Muslim Women Association in Nigeria (FOMWAN),  has urged the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Vice President-elect, Senator Kashim Shettima  to ensure women’s inclusion in their cabinet.

After hailing the duo on their victory at the poll, the group called on aggrieved parties to take their grievances to court.

This was contained in a press statement signed by Alhaja Rafiah Idowu Sanni, the national Amirah and Hajia Maimuna Momodu, the national spokesperson of the group.

The Muslim women group in the statement lauded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting free, fair and credible election in the recent history of Nigeria.

The group implored all political parties and their candidates who are not satisfied with the outcome of the election to take their grievances to the court of law and desist from instigative statements capable of causing more pain among citizens.

On women inclusion, the group stated further: “We  urge the administration of Tinubu/Shettima to consider giving 50% appointments to the Nigerian women in appreciation of their supports during the campaign and subsequent elections.”

While lamenting that the Nigerian political system has not been fair to the women, the group noted with dismay an insignificant number of seats won by women at the National Assembly as well as appointments made into cabinets.

“FOMWAN believes that neither the All Progressive Congress (APC) nor the opposition can win a polling unit without the massive votes from the women folk.”
