Taraba state Governor, Darius Dickson Ishaku, Sunday warned warring factions
of Jukuns and their Tiv neighbours in Kente and Rafinkada where crisis erupted on Friday May 10, 2019 and claimed several lives to sheathe sword and embrace peace.
Ishaku, in a statement signed by his senior special adviser on media and publicity Mr. Bala Dan-Abu and made available to Blueprint said the crisis was unfortunate, stressing that it should not be allowed to happen again.
He said Jukuns and the Tiv living in the border communities have every reason to live together in peace.
“This latest crisis, like the ones before resulted in the loss of innocent lives and the destruction of valuable properties.
It was unfortunate and should not be allowed to happen again” the statement warned.
He said both factions are farmers who struggle to earn a living mainly from the produce from their farms.
“Peace between the two groups is essential for this to be sustained for their mutual benefit.
It is, therefore, crucial for residents of these communities to deliberately seek and promote peace between themselves.
The statement informed that governor Ishaku has since directed security agencies to move to the scenes of the crisis in Kente and Rafinkada to ensure that peace returned.
“Although, the state government is also aware that relative peace has been achieved through this intervention; Security agencies have been instructed to deal ruthlessly with those promoting the crises and the killings in the state,” the statement said.
