Tolerance, greater tool for peaceful co-existence – Aisha Buhari

Abuja

Wife of the President, Aisha Buhari, yesterday said “tolerance will add value to a greater understanding of peaceful co-existence among Nigerians.”
Aisha, therefore, called on Nigerians to embrace the spirit of love and tolerance among one another.
She stated this in Abuja at the 4th International conference on Love and Tolerance with the theme: “Countering Violent Extremism” organised by Ufuk Dialogue in partnership with the Institute of Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) and others.
Aisha Buhari, who was represented by her Senior Special Assistant (SSA), Hajo Sani, said:
“I have been striving to see where everybody can be united, even when most of my statements have been misinterpreted. Tolerance among one another is important as religion is also a personal issue.
“Irrespective of our religions, irrespective of where we come from, irrespective of our tribes and skin colours, we are all Nigerians,” she said.
Also, the Chief Host, the Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, John Cardinal Onaiyekan, said most Christians had fallen back on the old Christian tradition which believed in the love of God and love of neighbour.
According to him, “our Lord Jesus said we should love one another as he loves us and we should be ready to love our neighbours as we love ourselves.”
The Director-General of the Institute of Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), Prof. Oshita O. Oshita, in his remarks, said the institute had always identified with Ufuk Dialogue “because of its mission which is to promote peace and conflict resolution strategies.”
“We use this forum to call on everybody to live as brothers and sisters irrespective of tribes, religious and belief,” he said.
Also speaking, the president, Ufuk Dialogue, Kamil Kemanci, said the programme was aimed at establishing a common platform in the information and opinion exchange stand by love.
“I hope that today’s deliberation will spread and carry us to the horizon where cultures and civilisation meet and reach for concessions,” he said.
