Tor Tiv’s wife seeks legislation on farmers’ output

Wife of the Tor Tiv, Mrs. Felicia Ayatse has appealed to Benue state government and the Benue state House of Assembly to enact legislation that will ensure that Benue farmers derive commensurate value for their farm produce.
Mrs. Ayatse was speaking yesterday at a sensitization tour to encourage women and youths involvement in agriculture across the Tiv speaking local government areas.
She stated that once such legislation comes into effect, the situation where indigenous middlemen (Beranda) connived with outside buyers to cheat farmers will adequately be addressed.
The Queen mother who lamented the behavior of indigenous middlemen who are bent on shortchanging farmers who toil all through the year, said the action deserves condemnation backed by an enabling law.
She restated her call on the people to engage in aggressive agricultural activities saying specific attention should be on the cultivation of vegetables and livestock.
She maintained that with serene environment and arable farmland, Tiv women and youths have no business with poverty, emphasizing that apart from generating income and making them self reliant, the produce will improve their nutritional needs as well.
The wife of the Tor Tiv who rounded up her sensitization tour of the Tiv speaking local government areas in Gbajimba, Guma local government pointed out that it is God’s appointed time for the Tiv women and youths to make use of the God endowed agricultural potentials in the land to attain greatness.
