Toto crises: Bassa community insists on own chiefdom

Bassa community in Toto local government area of Nasarawa state, have called on the state government to actualize its dream, by creating its own chiefdom for the interest of peace and development in the state.
National secretary, Bassa cultural and Development Union, Gwatana Dogwo, made the call yesterday in a press briefing in Lafia, the Nasarawa state capital.
He explained that in the lingering crises between Ebgura and Bassa ethic groups, it appeared as if government has taken side with the Egbura, ” he said.
The secretary charged the state government not to take side or protect one particular group against the other.
“After government intervention, it was expected that both warring groups would sheath their sword.
But it is shocking that the Egbura still maintain road blocks around Nasarawa ,Toto, Abaji federal roads at which point most Bassa have been killed,” Dogwo lamented.
He also called for the immediate dismantling of all road blocks on federal and local roads in order to effect free movement of the Bassa people in the area.
He urged government to put any electoral activities to hold until peace, law and order is restored in the area
