Touching lives through music, my greatest passion- Mike Odey

Mike Odey is an Abuja based Gospel music artiste from Gabu in Yala local government area of Cross River state. In this interview with DARE FAITH, he speaks on his source of inspiration and challenges as a gospel artiste.

How did you get into music?

I was born with the natural gift of singing. I grew up with so much passion for music and I love music with all my life.

How do you get inspiration to make music?

My inspiration comes from the spirit of God (the Holy Spirit). He is my number one source of inspiration.  Before I discover music as my, I had already started singing due to the strong passion that I have for music while growing up. My passion for music made me to start listening to quality music from different artist and that built me up to where I’m today.

How will you describe the kind of music you create?

 My music is first, very strong tool of worship to God. Second, it is for the uplifting of human soul.

What is your creative process like?

Everyone needs to understand that the process of any product is more important than the products itself, and for any quality product to come out great the process will always be tough, but as for me God has been there for me. It has not been easy for me, but I’m always motivated by my love for music.

Who would you like to collaborate with?

I will so much love to collaborate with my mentor Benjamin Cube.

If you could go open a show for any artist, who will it be?

I have couple of artists in mind but, I will rather go for my mentor (Benjamin Dube). He is one person that has impacted my life so much. So I will choose him among other good artists.

What message do you have for your fans?

I want all my fans to know that I love them, and the best will always come from me.

I want to assure them that anything that will ever come from me will be useful and good for my generation.

What would you be doing right now, if not music?

I should probably be in the ICT world because that is another thing that I really love to do, most importantly, touching lives which is my greatest passion.

Where have you performed before and where is your favourite venue?

First I will say, I am a gospel artist. As gospel artist we don’t perform; we minister.

 So I’ve been opportune to minister at late Evangelist Reinhard Bonnke crusade of blessed memory, among other top places that God has enable me.

My favorite venues will always be a venue that has quality sounds and lightening, with good instrumentalists.

Do you have any upcoming show?

Yes, talking about my upcoming music concert. I really have a lot to talk about it,

It is one major event that is waiting to happen as soon as the corona virus COVID-19 Pandemic is cover and it’s tagged Airport Road Worship Experience 2020, it’s really going to be a blast, and everyone is seriously looking forward to it.

How has the internet impacted the music business?

Yea, I will say the internet has really been a great deal in the music business globally. I mean the internet has really made lot things very easy for us. Today, you can stay in the comfort of your home and still reach millions of people around the world, I will say thanks to the power of technology.

Which song is your favourite?

My favorite song happens to come from my mentor. The song goes like this, in your presence, in your presence, lord i want to be in your presence, this is one song that I really love to sing always.

Which musicians do you admire?

I admire quite number of very popular musicians like of Dr. Pastor Paul Enenche, Benjamin Dube, Nathaniel Bassey Tasha Cobbs, Prospa Ochimana, among others.

What is the greatest challenge you have faced as an artiste?

The most trouble I ever gotten into was when I produced my first album. After the launching, I did not have money to pay my debt due to very low funds realized from the launching. It was such a hard moment for me this happened in 2017.

What is the best advice you’ve been given?

The best advice I’ve ever been given, was when people told me not to give up on myself.

If you could change anything about the industry, what will it be?

The only thing I’ll really like to change about the industry, particularly the gospel music industry, I will love to change the habit of not helping each other; this is one thing I’ll do anything to change. I really don’t want to talk too much about that but the point is, it’ll be good for us to help each other.

What’s next for you?

I’m actually working on few projects to be released between now and the end of 2020, which includes my upcoming music concert. Airport road worship experience 2020. I am really looking forward to it.
