Traditional rulers key to sustaining peace, stability – Ganduje

Traditional rulers have been described as key players in the promotion of peace and stability in Nigeria.

Kano state governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje made the assertion while declaring open the 12th general assembly of the National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria (NCTRN) held in Kano.

Governor Ganduje explained that the 12th general assembly was timely as there was the urgent need for relevant stakeholders to work together in ending the menace of insecurity and drug abuse among others.

He pointed out that the Kano state government has put modalities in place to ensure protection of lives and properties by the provision of tracking devices and establishment of joint task force on security.

He said to ensure development in all spheres of life, the state government had created four new emirate councils to uphold cultural heritage.

“There has been high level of expectations on traditional leaders in promoting peace and stability. The program was timely as the country is bedeviled by insecurity especially in the North. There’s the need for the traditional rulers to focus its attention on how to end the menace of insecurity.”

Earlier in his remarks, His Eminence the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar II pointed out that traditional and religious leaders in the country would continue to work for the unity and stability of the country.
