Police have arrested and detained a traditional title holder, Shehu Na-Allah Chiroman Baraya of Kwarbai in Zaria city over sodomy.
His arrest followed an allegation leveled against him by his community members that he allegedly raped an under-age boy, 14, name withheld.
Narrating the ordeal, the spokesman of the community, Mallam Hamza Zubairu Albarka, alleged that the suspect lured the victim to his room in pretence that he want to send him on errend.
According to them, as the victim entered the room, the suspect went after him closely and brandished a knife, forcefully had canal knowledge the innocent minor.
The spokesman further alleged he had carried out similar act for close to 20 years.
Mallam Albarka said the community leaders have reported the incident to the Police divisional headquarters, Zaria where both victim and the suspect were taken to the health facility for medical investigation after the matter was transferred to Kaduna state Police Command headquarters for further investigation in line with the capital offence.
The spokesman noted that the community had raised committee at their level to reach out to Zazzau Emirate on the incident.
Confirming detention of the suspect, the state police command’s spokesman, DSP Mohammed Jalige, said the title holder was under their custody.
He pointed out that in the course of their investigation, the suspect has not admitted to the allegation.
