Trailer kills 2, injures 4 in Onitsha

At least two persons reportedly died on Thursday when 40-foot trailer carrying a container fell at Obodoukwu junction/Onitsha/Owerri road, Upper Iweka axis, Onitsha, Anambra state.

According to an eye witness, the road mishap which occurred when the trailer was trying to navigate the damaged portion of the road, prompting its content (container) to fall on two tricycles loaded with passengers who were plying the road.

“The two tricyles were damaged beyond recognition. This led to death of five out of the entire passengers of the two tricycles. Others, about ten, including those trekking along the road sustained degrees of injuries, the source added.

It took the efforts of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in-charge of Okpoko Police station, Mr Jaura Ibrahim, who was on hand with his men and the Fire service men, to rescue the victims with help of crane (machine) of Julius Berger.

However, Ibrahim, while confirming the incident said that only two persons died while three others sustained severe injuries, and have been ferried to a nearby hospitals where they were placed on danger list.
