Train: FG offers free ride from Lagos to Abeokuta

The Federal Government has assured Nigerians that free train ride would commence from Iju, Lagos state to Abeokuta in Ogun State. 

Minister of Transportation Mr. Rotimi Amaechi who dropped the hint after inspecting the level of work on the railway said it was part of preparation ahead of it’s flag off by the vice president Prof Yemi Osinbajo later in February. 

The transport minister expressed satisfaction that a greater percentage of the work has been carried out.

He said the project would reduce transport time on the route from 1:30minutes to 45 minutes.

The minister enjoyed a 70 kilometer journey ride from iju lagos state to Abeokuta which was part of the inspection tour of the Lagos/Ibadan Rail Project. 

He said the railway would be open to traffic as soon as the vice president flag off the railway adding that more coaches would be moved from Warri to argument the two available coaches in order to ensure the two months free ride records a success, saying that Warrior has less passenger traffic.

On the second phase of the project which is from Abeokuta to Ibadan, Amaechi said it would be put to use by June, 2019.

On the N6billion Chinese loan, which is being sought for the execution of the Ibadan/Kaduna rail project, Amaechi said discussion was still ongoing.
