Transition committee alleges massive looting in Adamawa

The transition committee for the May 29 inauguration of the in-coming Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri administration has accused officials of the outgoing administration of auctioning government properties to themselves.

The committee made the statement issued in Yola at the weekend by the secretary of the committee John Yahya who specifically mentioned the Adamawa Agricultural Development and Investment Limited (AADIL) as one of the agencies where the officials have concluded arrangement to auction its assets to themselves.

He said the committee was in possession of the correct inventory of all items of the agency contrary to what the officials of the outgoing administration has submitted to the committee warning that any public officer who engaged himself in any sharp practices would have himself to blame when the new administration takes over.

Further, it alleged that the Jibrilla Bindow’s government was awarding dubious, bogus and hasty contracts in addition to last minutes employment stressing that one of such contract is the land clearing project purportedly awarded at the sum of N100m which was fully paid for in the last few days without any work done.

He described as laughable Bindow’s promised of paying the new minimum wage and wonders why a government that since assumption to office had resorted to taking overdraft to pay salaries would suddenly claim to be a welfarist government by promising to pay the N30,000 minimum wage even when the process is yet to be completed by the revenue mobilization and fiscal commission.

According to him, the governor is only playing to the gallery and advised him not to take workers for a ride adding that the insensitivity of the defeated administration can be seen in Bindow’s decision to pay himself severance benefits worth millions of naira but failed to paid workers their April salaries ten days into the current month at a time that Muslims are observing Ramadan fasting thereby bringing untold hardships to them and their families.

Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Comrade Ahmed Sajoh has dismissed the allegation noting that since government is a continuous process it does not mean they would stop working just a new administration would be taking over.
