Travel agent in court for alleged N1.3m visa fraud  

A 45-year-old man who specialised in procuring visas of various countries for intending travellers, Oguntomeso Olakitan, has been dragged to court by Osun state police command for alleged N1.3million visa fraud.

The police prosecutor, Fagboyinbo Abiodun, told the court that the defendant promised to procure visas from Canada, Turkey and South Korea for his victim and failed to do so.

The charge sheet reads in part: “That you Oguntomeso Olakitan sometimes in the year 2018 at Osogbo, Osun state, in the Osogbo magisterial district, did unlawfully obtain the sum of N1,300,000 from one Ijiwumi Opeoluwa Israel under this pretence of procuring Canada, South Korea and Turkey Visa for him, a pretence you know to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 419 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Voll Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.”

The defendant who hailed from Nasarawa state was arraigned on two count-charges of fraud and stealing. 

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the alleged offences. 

His counsel, Okobie Nagite, urged the court to grant the defendant bail in the most liberal terms, promising that he will be available for his trial.
