Tribunal upholds Ise-Idehen’s election in Edo

The Edo State Election Petition Tribunal has upheld the election of Hon. Jude Ise-Idehen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the representative of Ikpoba-Okha/Egor federal constituency.

Chairman of the tribunal Justice L. O Ogundana who delivered the judgment in Benin City, throw out the petition filed by Ehiozuwa Agbonayinma of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Justice Ogundana said the petitioner was unable to prove the allegation of corrupt practice and non-compliance with Electoral Acts beyond reasonable doubt and therefore, dismissed the petition for lack of merit.

The petitioner had prayed the tribunal to declare the elections of Ise-idehen as invalid “for non-compliance with the electoral Act 2010 as amended, corrupt practices, not duly elected by  majority of lawful votes among others”.

Responding to the Judgment, Ise-idehen commended the tribunal for ensuring that justice prevails.

He said the petition was filed in his opponent’s own imagination, adding that there was never a time he entertained fear that he was going to lose the case.

The Federal lawmaker commended the people of his constituency for believing in him and voting for him overwhelmingly.

According to him, “this victory will spur me to do more for  my people who stood by me during the trial. From the beginning, I was sure of victory,”  Ise-Idehen said.
