Tribute to late Hajia Zainab Ibrahim Idris

Death is inevitable and every soul will have a taste of it (Quran 3:185). It will surely come when it will come. It is a necessary end of every mortal on earth. It does not respect anybody, whether highly placed or not. Nobody has immunity from death. Some people live life till they attain old age, some die even before they are born, yet some die at the peak of their career. So when on Saturday, May 31, 2014, the death occurred of Hajiya Zainab Ibrahim Idris, the first lady of Kogi state between 2003 and 2012, and mother of the amiable Honourable Mohammed Idris, a member of the House of Representatives, many were shocked.

To any one that knew or heard of her gentle soul, Mama, as she was fondly called by her loved ones, was humble and gentle. An endless list of complimentary words cannot define the incredible person that this astoundingly selfless mother was – she was the pride of her family, the most compassionate first lady, the most caring mother any child could wish for, a devoted wife, a faithful friend and a priceless asset to the state.
As the state lost a greater first lady and even a greater woman, we mourn her passing away just two weeks to her 59th birthday. We also reflect on the impact she made in her position as the first lady through her pet project. She was without doubt one of the most successful and respected figures in Kogi state. As first lady she was very much respected and the humane qualities and unassuming way in which she conducted herself set her apart as a role model for the state and the country at large.

While we understand the inevitability of death for all humans, we appreciate how Hajiya Zainab will be missed by all who knew her, particularly the amiable Mohammed. Indeed, a vacuum difficult to fill has been created, but we fervently pray that Almighty Allah grant her pardon and a peaceful abode in paradise. May God grant Honourable Mohammed and the rest of his family members, the fortitude to bear this inconsolable loss. Adieu Mama. Your memory lives forever in our heart. Sleep well.
