Tricycle rider regains freedom after 6 months imprisonment in Ebonyi

The Public Complaints Commission in Ebonyi state weekend, secured the release of  Mr Ifeanyi Abani a tricycle operator who has been imprisoned for the past 6 months.

Handing over the keke to Mr. Abani, the Hon. Commissioner, Public Complaints Commission in Ebonyi state, Prof. Michael Awoke, commended the two officers of the Commission, Mr. Patrick Ede and Mr. Jesse Ebirim, for the way they handled the matter.

He however, charged other staffs in the Commission to emulate them, calling on the general public to always seek redress at the Commission whenever their rights were trampled upon.

The Director of Investigation, Chief Collins Chima also commended the Staff that handled the matter for the job well done and encouraged others to do same.

Mr Abani was imprisoned for not being able to provide the original particulars of his tricycle popularly known as “keke” when men of the Nigerian Police arrested him.

Operating the keke on hire purchase, Abani was unable to provide the particulars due to non-availability of the owner of the keke, one Mr. Daniel Okoye who was said to have traveled out of the state.

But the Ombudsman waded into the matter, sought for an found Mr Okoye who made the original copies of the particulars available by so doing freed Mr Abani whose freedom had been trampled upon immediately, and his impounded keke was released for him free of charge.
