Troops arrest 2 foreign bandits, as air force scuttles cattle rustling in Niger

An air interjection by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has led to scuttling of cattle rustling operation and arrest of two foreign bandits at Kasuwan Ango Community in Mariga Local Government Area of Niger state.

Several bandits were also killed during the air strikes by the NAF helicopter gunship that was executed on the night of 28 and early hours of 29 June 2020.

The air interjections were conducted base on “credible intelligence reports indicating that some armed bandits in black attire were seen on the move with a large number of rustled cattle in the area,” said Maj. Gen. John Enenche, Coordinator Defence Media Operation, Defence Headquarters, Abuja, in a statement.

After the intelligence report, Enenche said the Air Component of Operation Gama Aiki dispatched a helicopter gunship to engage the bandits in multiple waves of attack, which led to death some of the bandits, while a few escaped with gunshot wounds.

He said both the Defence Headquarters and the Chief of the Air Staff had commended the efforts Air component of Operation Gama Aiki.
