Troops arrest 3 herdsmen, recover weapons

 

Troops of 707 Special Forces Brigade have arrested three militia herdsmen with weapons at Tormatar village in Guma local government area of Benue state.

Assistant Director Army Public Relations, 707 Special Forces Brigade, Makurdi, Major Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, in a statement yesterday in Makurdi, said the arrest took place on Thursday when troops of the Brigade conducted a fighting patrol to a suspected militia herdsmen camp located close to Tormatar village.

He stated that the armed men were massing up for another possible attack on innocent citizens in the local government area.

According to him, on getting to the militia camp, the herdsmen opened fire at the troops, who immediately return same and dislodged the militia.
He said the troops in the process arrested three of the militia out of which one was wounded during the gun battle.

Ayeni listed the weapons recovered to include, two AK 47 rifles with six rounds of 7.62 mm special ammunition.
“The militia were identified as Abubakar Umaru, Adamu Likita and Yusufa Alhaja.

“Similarly one AK 47 rifle and 5 rounds of 7.62 mm special ammunition were found in the bush while conducting search by troops of the brigade in the general area of Naka village in Gwer West LGA on 25 April 2018.

“The militia are currently being investigated.”

“The Nigerian Army will leave no stone unturned to bring militia herders as well as any other criminal in Benue state to justice,” he added.
